In alternative medicine, you frequently hear the word “crystals” which refers to minerals or fossilized resins that are believed to have beneficial health properties.

Quartz is one of these crystals that is used often in healing rituals or in alternative medicine. The most common way to use them it is by holding the stones or placing them in specific places of the body to promote physical, emotional and spiritual healing.

It is believed that crystals interact with the person’s chakras which consist of wheels of energy that are located throughout the body. The Chopra Center points out that there are seven main chakras which align the spine, starting from the base of the spine and all the way through to the crown of the head.

Placebo Effect?

Many conventional publishers, as well as mainstream literature, write about the placebo effect crystals have in these kinds of alternative treatments. They believe that the stones don’t really heal anyone, but rather it’s the power of patient’s belief that he or she is getting better which results in the healing process.

But, let’s think about this for one second. If crystals are making you achieve a calm and secure mental state where you believe that the treatment you are receiving will actually work then in a way these stones are actually helping you have an open and receptive mind that will send your body the energy and signals it needs to in fact heal itself.

It depends on how you view the crystal healing process. Web MD says that “the mere act of doing something to take control of your destiny can often boost hope, brighten the mood, and improve your ability to cope with a chronic condition” which is what happens when you receive this kind of therapy.

To me, it’s not a placebo if a change is taking place whether it is because your mind has told your body to heal or whether crystals actually have special powers.

Crystal Healing Therapies

Crystal-healing therapies may consist of a healer placing various stones on your bodywhich are aligned with your chakras as I explained before. It will depend on the symptoms you are experiencing, which chakras the healer will work with, and which crystals he or she will use. The healer’s knowledge, instinct, and belief will also determine which crystals are used.

Another way to use crystal healing is by placing stones under your pillow to ward off sickness, shed negative energy, or absorb positive energy while you sleep.

You can also wear crystals as a type of therapy. Whether it is a pendant, a necklace or a bracelet, the effect is the same. Like I’ve said before, I have an Amethyst pendant I wear every day to protect myself from negative energies that surround us, but you can choose the one you like best or feel you connect with the most.

Crystals can also be used in therapies with cards such as Tarot readings. Different types of crystals are used for different purposes and they can also help to keep the cards with a good and positive vibe.
